The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution denouncing attacks attributed to Iran against member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan.

The measure passed with 13 votes in favour, while Russia and China chose to abstain.

Introduced by Bahrain and backed by 135 co-sponsoring nations, the resolution reaffirmed international backing for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Gulf bloc and Jordan.

The document emphasised “strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence” of the GCC states and Jordan.

It also strongly criticised Tehran’s alleged military actions, stating that the council “strongly condemns the ‘egregious attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against’ the Gulf countries and Jordan,” warning that the incidents “constitute a breach of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security.”

Council members further denounced attacks on non-military targets, noting that civilian facilities had been hit during the conflict.

The resolution condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure, which “resulted in civilian casualties and damage to civilian buildings.”

Reacting to the adoption of the measure, Bahrain’s ambassador to the UN, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, described the vote as a strong signal of the council’s commitment to stability.

“It proved that the Council is committed to maintaining international peace and security.

“We express our deep gratitude to all member states of the United Nations that co-sponsored this resolution.

“Their number amounted to 135 countries. This overwhelming support by the international community reflects a collective awareness of the danger of the unjust Iranian attack against our countries,” he noted.
