Folashade Aliu, an aide to the former New Nigerian Peoples Party NNPP, presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has alleged that the US Congress sanctions on her principal is politically motivated.
Aliu made this allegation on Thursday when she featured in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’, adding that the move was seriously malicious.
DAILY POST reports that United States lawmakers initiated a new bill aimed at increasing accountability for human rights abuses in Nigeria.
The legislation, Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, contains provision for potential sanctions against Fulani militias and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Reacting, the former lawmaker’s aide said, “There is no indication that Kwankwaso has anything to do with religious bigotry or terrorism.
“So that is how I want to present it to you that this whole thing is seriously malicious an politically motivated.
“Kwankwaso is a nationalist and a person of good character; his running mate and some of his employees are Christians.
“Then let me also say, if you look at that bill, it’s talking about the fact that Kwankwaso is the first governor that has something to do with Sharia, which is not correct.”
