US, Denmark set to discuss Greenland dispute

1 hour ago 1

Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen has disclosed that he would meet with US Vice President, JD Vance in Washington on Wednesday to discuss the dispute over US claims on Greenland.

To attend the meeting also are the Greenland’s Minister responsible for Foreign Policy, Vivian Motzfeldt as well as the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

The scheduled meeting is coming following increased tensions over the Arctic island after the repeated statements of US President Donald Trump that the US must own Greenland for its national security interests.

DAILY POST reports that Greenland, home to fewer than 57,000 people and about four-fifths covered by ice, is largely autonomous but formally part of the Kingdom of Denmark, a NATO member.

Meanwhile, residents of the Danish autonomous territory have repeatedly said that they do not want to become a part of the US.
