The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a ground military operation to seize Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
According to a report published on Monday, the uranium is believed to be hidden underground at Iran’s nuclear facility in Isfahan.
A U.S. military official told CNN that intelligence suggests the material is stored deep within the nuclear processing centre.
Officials said that if the U.S. decides to seize the uranium, it would likely require a large deployment of American ground troops rather than a small special forces mission.
TRT Hausa reports that most of the enriched uranium is thought to be kept at the Isfahan facility. Capturing it would align with Trump’s stated goal of completely dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities, which has been a key objective in the conflict.
In an earlier speech, Trump did not rule out a ground invasion of Iran.
