The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on Friday, honoured Super Falcons forward and Benue-born football star, Francisca Ordega, for her role in Nigeria’s historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ordega, who was part of the team that secured Nigeria’s record 10th WAFCON title, was received at the Minister’s office in Abuja alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah.
Speaking during the visit, Prof Utsev commended the Super Falcons for their outstanding performance, attributing their success to hard work, dedication, and teamwork. He lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for the team, including the conferment of national honours and the reward packages announced for the players.
“I am particularly proud that a daughter of Benue is among the champions who made Nigeria proud. As a Ministry, we are delighted to celebrate her success and will continue to encourage young people in Benue to excel in their chosen careers,” Utsev said.
In her remarks, Ordega expressed appreciation for the honour, describing Utsev as “a brother and uncle.”
She thanked the minister, the people of Benue, President Tinubu, and Nigerians for their support throughout the tournament.
She further urged the minister to invest in sports development in Benue State to help discover and nurture new talents.
