
Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old village head in Zambuk community, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement to journalists on Tuesday, stating that the incident was reported to the Zambuk Police Division on Saturday night, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“On Saturday, around 9 p.m., the Zambuk Division received a report of a 55-year-old Ward Head of Sabon Gari, Zambuk, Yamaltu/Deba LGA, who allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl from the same community. Police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect,” Abdullahi said.
He noted that investigations are ongoing and urged residents to promptly report all cases of sexual violence for swift action.
In a separate development, the police recovered vandalised electric cables, iron pipes, and railway track bolts in Bajoga Town, Funakaye LGA.
Abdullahi also confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old wanted armed robbery suspect in Kwadom community, Yamaltu/Deba LGA. The suspect allegedly confessed to participating in two armed robbery incidents currently before the Gombe High Court.
According to him, the suspect and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Anti-Violence Squad Unit for further investigation and prosecution. Seven other suspects were also detained over alleged criminal conspiracy, vandalism, and theft of railway line steel slippers.
