Former Arsenal striker, Emmanuel Adebayor has criticized Benfica manager Jose Mourinho over his comments concerning the alleged racist abuse aimed at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.
Last week, Vinicius claimed Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni racially abused him during both teams’ UEFA Champions League Round of 16 play-off first leg clash in Lisbon.
The incident occurred after the Brazilian international netted the only goal of the match in the second half.
Following the match, Mourinho suggested Vinicius provoked Benfica fans with his dancing celebration.
But Adebayor, a former player of Mourinho at Real Madrid, disagreed with the Portuguese, insisting that he was wrong.
“I think Mourinho was wrong, and for the first time, I’ll never agree with Mourinho on this,” Adebayor told BeIN Sports.
“There is no place for racism in football, sports and in everyday life.
“If you’re not allowed to go by the corner flag and dance, then there is no point because these are the things that bring joy to footballers.”
