WAEC debunks rumour of 2025 WASSCE cancellation, calls report fake

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral report claiming that the 2025 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been cancelled.

Reacting to the claim, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, Moyo Adesina, described the purported statement — allegedly issued by the Federal Ministry of Education — as entirely fictitious and baseless.

“The statement is not only fictitious, but a figment of the imagination of the purveyors of such news item,” Adesina told reporters.

She confirmed that the examination scripts are currently being finalized and that the results will be released to the public in due course.

“The marking of the exam scripts is being concluded and the results would be made public soon,” she stated.

Adesina assured that WAEC would issue an official statement later in the day to further clarify the situation and urged the public to ignore the circulating misinformation.

“We call on the public to disregard it,” she said.

WAEC emphasized its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process and delivering timely results to candidates across West Africa.
