Wall Street watches closely as Trump, ByteDance declare TikTok deal without disclosure

U.S. President Donald Trump and ByteDance have both claimed that a deal over TikTok’s U.S. operations has been “approved,” but the absence of concrete details has left markets and regulators in suspense.

The announcement, made in separate statements, offered no clarity on the structure of the agreement, the role of U.S. investors, or the timeline for implementation.

The deal is expected to address Washington’s longstanding national security concerns over the Chinese-owned video-sharing app, which has faced multiple bans and legal challenges in the United States.

While Trump hailed the development as a “win for America,” ByteDance emphasized that it had worked to preserve TikTok’s global integrity while satisfying U.S. requirements.

On his social media site Truth Social, Trump made a suggestion this week that a deal had been reached and that the buyer will be revealed shortly.

According to a Wall Street Journal article, investors Oracle, Silver Lake, and Andreessen Horowitz would own 80% of the U.S. TikTok company, with the remaining shares going to Chinese stockholders.

The board of the new business would also be composed primarily of Americans, with one member chosen by the US government.

“The call was a very good one, we will be speaking again by phone, appreciate the TikTok approval,” Trump noted on his Truth Social account on Friday, after saying that one of the items addressed during the call was the deal’s approval.
