President of the United States of America Donald Trump has expressed surprise that US allies in the Gulf have been targeted by Iran.
Trump described this as the ‘biggest surprise of the whole thing.’
Trump told NBC News that he is “surprised” that Iran has chosen to hit US allies in the Gulf in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The president referred to these nations as “terrific,” further commenting that “they got shot at unnecessarily.”
Regarding Iran’s choice to target them, Trump remarked that it was “the biggest surprise I had of this whole thing.”
For many years, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Oman have permitted the establishment of US military bases, infrastructure, or access on their territories.
They have been among the largest purchasers of American arms and technology. In exchange, the US has served as the Gulf’s closest and most vital military ally and protector.
Currently, numerous countries in the region are increasingly worried about the evolving relationship, as analysts suggest they are being drawn deeper into a conflict they did not initiate and have sought to avert through diplomatic means.
Although the Gulf anticipated being affected by the repercussions, the extent of Iran’s retaliatory campaign has left many in disbelief.
Gulf states had assured Tehran that none of their bases would be utilized for assaults, yet this has not deterred Iran from launching thousands of drones and missiles aimed at airports, military installations, oil refineries, ports, hotels, and office complexes.
