War: I want to take Iran’s oil – Trump

2 hours ago 1

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has said the US would want to take the oil in Iran.

Trump said that his “preference would be to take the oil” in Iran, and that US forces could potentially capture the regime’s export center located on Kharg Island.

He told The Financial Times, however, that some people back in the US he described as ‘stupid’ are asking him questions over the move.

The President said this following the US deployment of thousands of troops to the Middle East.

The US president draws a parallel between this possible action and the situation in Venezuela, where the US aims to exert control over the oil sector “indefinitely” following the removal of president Nicolás Maduro in January.

Trump told Financial Times on Sunday, “To be honest with you, my favorite thing is to take the oil in Iran, but some foolish individuals back in the US question: ‘why are you doing that?’ But they’re foolish individuals.”

The report from the Financial Times further indicated that such an action would necessitate the seizure of Kharg Island, through which the majority of Iran’s oil is exported.

However, an attack on this export hub would be perilous, increasing the likelihood of additional US casualties and prolonging the costs and duration of the conflict.

“Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options,” Trump remarked.

The newspaper also cited Trump, emphasizing that despite his threats to take control of Iranian oil production, indirect negotiations between the US and Iran through Pakistani “emissaries” were advancing positively.
