War: Iran’s new leader confirmed injured, hospitalised after US-Israel strikes

Iranian officials have acknowledged for the first time that the new leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei sustained injuries during the airstrikes that resulted in the death of his father, mother, wife and one son in the early phases of the conflict.

The 56-year-old, who was recently appointed as his father’s successor, has not made any public appearances or issued direct communications since the onset of the war.

“I have heard that he was injured in his legs, hand, and arm… I believe he is hospitalized due to his injuries,” stated Tehran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Alireza Salarian, in an interview with the Guardian UK.

In the meantime, despite increasing pressure on the US and Israel to reconsider their joint military operations, decision-makers in both nations seem to be persisting with the campaign for the time being.

Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, remarked on Wednesday that the operations would proceed “without any time limit, as long as necessary, until we accomplish all objectives and secure victory in the campaign.”

US President Donald Trump has conveyed a series of mixed signals in recent days, fluctuating from describing the war as a “short-term excursion” that could conclude soon to asserting, “we haven’t won enough” during the same address in Washington on Monday.

On Wednesday, the US president informed a rally in Hebron, Kentucky that “we won” but emphasized that the US would remain engaged in the conflict to complete the task.

“You never want to declare victory too soon. We won. It was over in the first hour,” Trump stated.

He asserted that the US had eliminated 58 Iranian naval vessels but suggested that hostilities would persist.

“We don’t want to leave prematurely, do we?” he remarked, adding: “we must finish the job…We don’t want to return every two years.”

Governments worldwide are apprehensive about potential economic instability stemming from rising oil prices, which could provoke discontent among voters.

Trump also seemed to commend the “tremendous impact” of decisions made by leaders of the G7 nations as they convened to deliberate on the war and its economic ramifications, according to a brief video clip released by the French presidency.

“I believe we are having a tremendous impact, actually unbelievable, on the world,” Trump concluded.
