France has expressed surprise at President of the United States, Donald Trump’s remarks about Paris’ refusal to allow planes heading to Israel to fly over its airspace.
France stated that this decision was in line with its policy since the beginning of the war with Iran.
“We are surprised by this tweet. France has kept its stance from the very beginning of the conflict,” said the office of President Emmanuel Macron.
Trump had posted on Truth Social earlier stating that France had been “very unhelpful” and that the United States would “remember.”
France said no to planes going to Israel that were carrying military supplies, and they could not fly over its airspace.
“France has been very unhelpful regarding the “Butcher of Iran,” who has been successfully taken out! The U.S.A. will REMEMBER!!!” Trump said.
The French military stated on March 5th that France would not authorize the use of its bases by American planes if they participated in attacks on Iran, but would permit it on a “temporary basis” if they were supporting the defense of French allies in the region.
A Western diplomat and two people who know about the situation told Reuters that the refusal took place over the weekend, and it was the first time France had done this since the war began.
According to the sources, Israel wanted to use France’s airspace to move US weapons for the war.
