Russian special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev has met with representatives of the United States of America President, Donald Trump, in Florida, the Russian state news agency TASS reported on Wednesday, citing sources close to the negotiations.
Dmitriev is Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries and also plays an important role in the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
According to media reports, Dmitriev has built up a good relationship with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in recent months.
The US sees itself as a mediator in the talks between Russia and Ukraine.
There have been several recent meetings in the Middle East, now shaken by the war in Iran, and one in Switzerland.
This is coming after Putin had earlier this week warned of possible retaliation against Europe after reports that the European Union is preparing additional restrictions on Russian liquefied natural gas and energy supplies.
