Ukraine has denounced Iran’s declaration that its technical assistance to Tehran’s adversaries in the war could make the European nation a lawful target.
Iranian lawmaker, Ebrahim Azizi on Saturday said Ukraine has effectively become involved in the combat through its “drone support to the Israeli regime.”
In a post on X, Azizi, head of the parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, said Ukraine “has turned its entire territory into a legitimate target for Iran.”
Kyiv condemned the threat, saying Iran has been supporting “the murder of Ukrainians by sharing drones and technology for Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
The Foreign Ministry said hearing anyone from the regime threaten Ukraine and cite the right to self-defense specified in the U.N. Charter’s Article 51 “is absurd.”
“It’s like hearing a serial killer justify his crimes by citing criminal code,” the spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, noted in a statement.
Ukraine has become a leader in drone interception, an expertise it sharpened in the warfare with Russia, which has used thousands of Iranian-made shahed drones since the conflict began.
Over 10 countries have requested Kyiv’s help in repulsing the shaheds amid the tensions in the Middle East. European leaders recently extolled President Volodymyr Zelensky for his intervention.
Meanwhile, Iran’s IRGC has warned the United States to evacuate American industrial facilities in the region, advising civilians near factories with U.S. ownership to vacate such areas.
On Saturday, a Giraffe 1X radar for counter-drone, C-RAM, and short-range air defense was affected during an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, capital of Iraq.
