Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has spoken about the emotional and cultural relevance of her new film, Mother’s Love, describing it as a project deeply connected to her personal experiences and values.

In an interview with Yanga FM aired on Saturday, the actress said the film, which centres on the complex relationship between mothers and daughters, fills a gap in Nigerian storytelling. According to her, such narratives are rarely explored on the big screen despite their everyday significance.

“We don’t have too many films that explore or showcase the relationship between mothers and daughters,” Omotola said, noting that the theme is one that resonates strongly with her.

She explained that bringing this story to cinemas nationwide was intentional, aimed at sparking conversations around family bonds, generational understanding, and emotional growth.

Omotola also addressed the realities of film promotion in Nigeria, criticising the pressure on actors to create viral social media content, including dancing, to market their projects.

“Do whatever you can do—it’s exhausting, it’s not natural. For me, the film industry is not supposed to be like that. We are encouraging nonsense if we are doing that,” she said, adding that while creators should promote their work as they see fit, the current trend can be draining and distracting from the craft.

Reflecting on her own journey as a mother, Omotola admitted she had regrets about how she raised her first daughter, saying she was overly strict at the time because discipline was the only approach she understood.
