Protests erupted across Abuja on Monday as retired officers of the Nigeria Police Force took to the streets over delayed payment of their pensions and benefits by the Federal Government.
In a video sighted by DAILY POST, the aggrieved retirees were seen marching towards the Presidential Villa, demanding their removal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The protesters voiced their frustration, singing, “We no gree, we no go gree, wuru wuru pension, we no go gree”, as they called attention to what they described as years of neglect.
Speaking during the protest, some of the retirees stressed that the demonstration was a fight for their rights, insisting they would not be intimidated.
“We are fighting for our rights and you say you will deal with people? You cannot intimidate us,” one of them said.
They further lamented the hardship they now face after decades of service.
“We have served the Nigeria Police for 35 years, with pain and suffering. Now that we are retired, we are supposed to go home and enjoy the fruits of our labour, but the police and the government have decided that we should continue to suffer and die in suffering. We say enough is enough,” another of the retirees added.
