The Republic of Mali and its counterpart, Burkina Faso have announced travel restrictions on American nationals.

The both countries announced the restriction in statements by their respective foreign ministries on Wednesday.

The Sahelian countries said it was in a tit-for-tat move following their inclusion in the US no-entry list.

They added that restriction is an equivalent  on US citizens after President Donald Trump expanded a travel ban to to them and other countries.

Recall that the list included Syrian citizens, as well as Palestinian Authority passport holders, and nationals of some of Africa’s poorest countries including also Niger, Sierra Leone and South Sudan.

Burkina Faso’s foreign ministry disclosed that it was applying equivalent visa measures on Americans.

Mali, on its part maintained that it was applying the same conditions and requirements on American nationals.

President Trump on December 17 announced partial travel restrictions on citizens of other African countries including Nigeria, as well as Ivory Coast and Senegal.
