The China Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has stated that the world would be in a worse situation without the United Nations.
He added that the Global Governance Initiative, GGI, proposed by China, could not be more timely.
Yi said that China’s suggested GGI got support and replies from over 150 countries and international groups.
He spoke at a press conference during the current session of the National People’s Congress.
He said, “The GGI completely meets the expectations of the international community and shows the hopes of people from all countries.”
The minister added, “The most clear message from the GGI is that the UN’s leading position must be supported, not questioned; its central role must be made stronger, not less important.”
The foreign minister said that the world would be in a worse situation without the UN. Creating separate structures outside the UN or forming different groups that only include certain countries is not well received and won’t last long.
As a founding member of the UN and a strong supporter of its mission, China urged more nations to take part in and back the GGI, and to join efforts in making the UN more effective, protecting it, and making it stronger.
