Women protest killing of two youths in Abia community

Economic activities in Amiyi Obilohia community, Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State was on Friday obstructed as women from the community protested the killing of their two sons by suspected gunmen.

Angered by the killings, the women protested at the Eke market in the community, shutting down business activities in the area.

The Amiyi Obilohia women, who were singing songs of sorrow during the protest, called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murder of their children.

They appealed to the security agencies and government at all levels to protect their homes, forests and roads from activities of criminal elements.

The protest, which began at the Ama Ukwu Oho Square, also saw the women praying for God’s intervention and protection.

The women also appealed for support and proper equipping of their local vigilante members to defend their community, lamenting that the boundary area between Amiyi Obilohia and Ogii Okigwe is one of the flashpoints of insecurity.

Speaking on the security situation, a member of the Amiyi Obilohia community, Agbaeze Chinonso said:

“Movement within and around the area has reduced significantly. Economic stability is being threatened by insecurity. Daily life has been disrupted in many homes.”

DAILY POST recalls that the member representing the Isuikwuato constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Mr. Lucky Nweke Johnson recently raised Matters of Urgent Public Importance in the House, lamenting the killing of two persons in his constituency.
