World Cup 2026: ‘Total disaster’ – Oliseh on Italy’s failure to qualify

Former Juventus midfielder, Sunday Oliseh, has described Italy’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament as a total disaster.

According to Oliseh, Italy has forgotten how to play top-level football.

Recall that Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing on penalty shoot-out against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their European play-off.

Reacting, Oliseh, a former Super Eagles coach, wrote on X on Wednesday, “Watching this World Cup play-off final for Italy is a nightmare.

“It is genuinely heartbreaking to see what happens to a great football nation when they miss back-to-back World Cups. Seeing them eliminated by Bosnia and missing out for a third straight time is more than just a bad game; it is a total disaster for the soul of Italian football.

“The team looks broken. The players have no confidence, they look like they’ve forgotten how to play at the top level, and the talent just isn’t there anymore.”

Italy has won four World Cups in the past and the last one they won was in 2006 when they defeated France in the final.
