Barcelona players Yamal and Lewandowski have been found guilty of violating anti-doping laws in the Champions League.

It has been confirmed that both Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski have been found guilty of violating the anti-doping laws of the UEFA Champions League.

The reigning La Liga champions are set to kick off their 2025/26 title defence in just over a week, facing RCD Mallorca in their opening fixture.

Under Hansi Flick, the Catalan giants enjoyed a remarkable campaign last season, securing a domestic treble and reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

However, ahead of the new season, both Yamal and Lewandowski have landed in trouble with UEFA over an incident following Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final clash with Inter Milan.

According to Spanish media outlet Marca, the governing body ruled that the pair failed to follow the Anti-Doping Control Officer’s instructions by not reporting immediately to the Control Post as required.

As a result, both players have been fined €5,000 (£4,336) each. The manager of the Catalan side, Hansi Flick was also fined €20,000 (£17,339) and handed a one-match suspension from UEFA club competitions for breaching general principles of conduct and failing to uphold basic standards of decent behaviour.

Assistant coach Marcus Sorg has received the same fine and ban for similar offences.

Barcelona as a club have also been penalised, with fines of €5,250 (£4,551) for objects thrown and €2,500 (£2,167) for fireworks lit during the match.

The penalties, issued by UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, take immediate effect and will impact the club’s next European fixture.
