Yobe: Gov Buni presents over N515bn as 2026 budget

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has presented a budget of N515,583,000,000 for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

Tagged “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” the proposal is designed to cover capital, recurrent, overhead, and personnel costs.

The new budget surpasses that of the outgoing year, which stood at N320,811,000,000. Of the total estimate, N192,128,000,000, representing 37.3 per cent, is allocated to recurrent expenditure, while N323,455,000,000, representing 62.7 per cent, is earmarked for capital expenditure.

Highlighting the key provisions of the 2026 budget, Governor Buni said it focuses on completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones aimed at consolidating post-insurgency recovery and accelerating socio-economic development in the state.

He stated: “The breakdown of the budget for the key sectors are as follows: Administration Sector N63,966,986,000 – 12.4 per cent; Economic Sector N245,703,454,000 – 47.7 per cent; Law and Justice Sector N5,983,798,000 – 1.1 per cent; and Social Services Sector N200,328,762,000 – 38.9 per cent.”

The governor noted that healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, and infrastructure—including road construction, electricity, and water supply—received major attention in the outgoing year.

Governor Buni also announced plans to establish a dialysis centre in Gashua to provide relief to kidney patients, adding that “government would also construct a new General Hospital in Potiskum to decongest the Specialist Hospital” in 2026.
