The Yobe State Government has expressed concern over rising cases of immoral activities among youths in Potiskum town and its environs.
This was disclosed at a meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana, which brought together traditional and religious leaders, local government officials, and security agencies, among others.
In his opening remarks, Gubana said he had been directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni to convene the meeting as part of efforts to address the escalating levels of immorality affecting young people in the area.
The deputy governor emphasised the need for collective action to curb the troubling behaviour.
“We are deeply concerned over the escalating levels of immorality among our youth. There is a need for us to take collective action to curb these troubling behaviours”, he said.
The member representing Potiskum East Constituency in the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Isa Bello Danchua, who briefed journalists on the outcome of the meeting, said the issue was extensively discussed, and solutions were proposed by stakeholders.
“We have come to a conclusion that the government will do its own part in providing all necessary support to religious leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders to effectively fight the menace of immoral acts to the barest minimum”, he said.
The lawmaker added that the meeting aims not only to reduce the menace of immorality but also to foster a collaborative approach among community leaders to promote positive values and a healthy environment for youths and other groups in Potiskum.
