YouTube tightens rules to check production of AI-generated videos

YouTube has introduced measures to check “mass-produced” and “repetitive” videos on its platform, particularly those that provide little value.

These adjustments by the social media video-sharing platform, which clarify existing restrictions, are widely interpreted as a reaction to the increase of AI-generated material.

The “repetitive content” provision in YouTube’s YouTube Partner Program (YPP) monetization guidelines will be replaced by “inauthentic content” as of July 15, 2025, to more accurately represent content that is mass-produced or repetitive.

Henceforth, YouTube will flag mass-produced content, repetitive content, low-effort AI-generated videos, and content primarily for views/ads made solely for monetization rather than for the enjoyment or education of viewers.

YouTube in a statement clarified that, ‘this update does not change its existing reused content policy for content like commentary, clips, compilations, and reaction videos. These formats can still be monetized if creators add significant original commentary, modifications, educational value, or entertainment value.’’

‘‘The use of AI tools is still allowed if they are used to assist creation and not replace human input entirely, and if the content adheres to all other monetization guidelines. Disclosure is required when content has been realistically altered or is synthetic,” the platform said in a statement.
