The Commissioner for Environment in Ogun state, Ola Oresanya, has urged all residents and visitors to celebrate the year’s Christmas and New Year in a clean, healthy and safe environment.

He gave the charge on Wednesday, in a statement obtained by DAILY POST to mark the festive season.

While wishing all Christians and all residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2026, Oresanya urged them to make cleanliness their watchword by cleaning their surroundings and storing their waste in covered containers for onward collection by the Waste PSP Operators.

“All  PSP Operators in the state have been mandated to work round-the-clock throughout this festive period to collect wastes in their assigned areas for effective waste management especially with expected increase in waste generation from the celebration.

“Aside from this, all government waste management equipment with environmental officials have been deployed to various parts of the state to complement the efforts of the PSP operators in this “Special End -Of -The-Year Duties” geared towards maintaining clean environment statewide.

“So residents of the state and visitors are therefore assured of the government’s readiness to continue to maintain the clean environment, I urge our people to play their part by cooperating with them for this operation” he added.

The commissioner also advised traders to conduct their businesses in a clean, safe, and healthy atmosphere, particularly during this time when an increase in trading activities is anticipated in all markets and supermarkets, warning them to refrain from street trading as environment marshalls will be on duty to uphold peace and order in all public areas of the state.

Oresanya, however, warned “emergency traders” who deal in livestock and other goods and display them on roadsides, medians, in the booths of their cars, and in other public areas to stop and relocate to nearby markets adding that, the state government will aside from seizing their goods sentence them to community services for destroying the aesthetic beauty of the state through their illegal street trading.

Meanwhile, he urged drivers to drive carefully to prevent needless accidents during this festive season because statewide street sweepers will be on duty to keep the state roads clean.

He also cautioned carnival organisers to avoid blocking any state roads for their celebration, stressing that the state’s environmental laws prohibit blocking state roads for parties and carnivals.
