Two clubs have already secured their place in England’s top flight following a strong campaign in the EFL Championship ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Ipswich Town confirmed their return by finishing inside the automatic promotion spots. Their consistency across the season, particularly in both attacking output and defensive structure, ensured they avoided the uncertainty of the playoff route and sealed promotion on merit.
Alongside them, Derby County also secured automatic promotion after an impressive campaign. Their ability to maintain form under pressure, especially in the latter stages of the season, proved decisive in edging out competitors and clinching a top-two finish.
Hull City took the last spot by secured promotion to the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley. Oli McBurnie scored the decisive goal deep into stoppage time to send the Tigers back to the English top flight after nine years away.
The victory completes a remarkable campaign for Hull City, who earned promotion through the play-offs despite facing financial and off-field challenges earlier in the season. Their return to the Premier League is expected to bring a huge financial boost, reportedly worth around £200 million through broadcasting and commercial revenues.
Hull now join Coventry City F.C. and Ipswich Town F.C. as the promoted clubs for the 2026/27 Premier League season.
