Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has cleared the air on speculations that he is planning to defect from the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general elections.

Mohammed denied the speculation, stating that his political focus remains on contesting the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat in 2027 on the platform of the APM.

The clarification is coming after claims circulating on social media that he was being considered as Jonathan’s vice-presidential candidate under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

DAILY POST reports that the speculation gained traction after a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Turaki on Saturday announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Recall that Jonathan was ratified as the faction’s flag bearer at a special national convention held in Abuja.

Although the former president was absent at the event, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.

Reacting, the Bauchi governor urged the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise, insisting that he has no plans to abandon his current political ambition.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” the governor said.
