As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind growing calls for a legal mandate that would compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to electronically transmit election results.
In a statement to Vanguard on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC firmly supports legislation that would make e-transmission of results mandatory, describing it as crucial for transparency, credibility, and restoring voter confidence in the electoral process.
“If establishing a legal framework for the electronic transmission of election results will compel INEC to act rightly and deepen transparency in our electoral process, then the ADC will stand firmly in support of it,” Abdullahi stated.
“For us, anything that guarantees that the votes of the people genuinely count and protects the sanctity and integrity of our elections is not just desirable; it is an absolute necessity,” he added.

According to Abdullahi, electoral credibility is non-negotiable if Nigeria’s democracy is to survive and thrive. He stressed that INEC must be held accountable and that the people’s votes must be accurately captured and reflected in the final tally.
The ADC’s position aligns with mounting pressure from other political stakeholders, including the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which earlier urged the National Assembly to pass a law requiring INEC to transmit results in real time from polling units to its central server.
Calls for electoral reform have intensified in recent months, with critics pointing to alleged result manipulation and logistical failures during previous elections. The push for a stronger legal framework on electronic transmission is seen as a key step toward rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.
