A member of the House of Representatives, Sani Aliyu Danlami, has lost the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket for the 2027 election in Katsina Central Federal Constituency.
Danlami, currently serving his second term, was edged out following consultations among party stakeholders, who settled for Abba Mangal as the consensus candidate.
Abba Mangal, a legal practitioner, is the son of businessman Dahiru Mangal.
Danlami accepted the outcome of the process and urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.
In a statement, he called on party members to prioritise peace and unity.
Sources said the consensus process lasted several days and involved consultations among aspirants and party stakeholders.
The development is seen as a shift in the constituency’s political landscape, given Danlami’s incumbency.
Several aspirants were said to have indicated interest in the ticket before the consensus arrangement.
The development marks the first time a member of Dahiru Mangal’s immediate family has emerged as a candidate for elective office in the state.
