A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Yobe State and senator representing Yobe South, Ibrahim Bomai, has withdrawn from the 2027 governorship race.

Bomai announced his decision in a statement issued on Saturday after consultations with party stakeholders, political associates, and supporters across the state.

He said the decision followed extensive discussions and interventions by party leaders and was taken in the interest of unity and stability ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, his governorship ambition was driven by a desire to contribute to the development, peace, and unity of Yobe State.

The senator thanked his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices, and commitment throughout the political process.

“After extensive consultations, deep reflection, and discussions with stakeholders and respected elders, I have decided to step down from contesting the governorship position for Yobe State,” he said.

Bomai urged his supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the progress of the state despite his withdrawal from the race.

The withdrawal comes days after two other APC governorship aspirants, Lawan Kolo Geidam and former Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, also stepped down from the race.
