345 in police net as Kano cracks down on crime

The Kano State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 345 suspects in a major crackdown on crime across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the operation follows a three-day operation carried out across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

“The operation, which took place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, targeted identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and drug distribution centres,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the suspects include thugs, drug peddlers, and individuals found in possession of offensive weapons.

The statement added that they are currently under investigation and will be prosecuted where necessary.

He also revealed that the police recovered 270 dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, and clubs, as well as a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs such as cannabis, Exol tablets, and a locally known substance called “Suck and Die.”

“These recoveries have significantly reduced the ability of criminal elements to harm innocent citizens and disturb public peace,” he said.

“As I stated on assumption of duty, no form of criminality will be tolerated in Kano State. We will continue to deal decisively with thuggery, drug trafficking, and violent crimes,” Bakori stated.

The statement further added that available data and feedback from residents show that crime is gradually reducing in many parts of the state due to sustained police efforts and improved community cooperation.
