Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi is elated as he prepares to reach a major career milestone, his 100th appearance for Nigeria. Iwobi is set to hit the landmark when he features for the Super Eagles in Wednesdays international friendly against Portugal in Leiria. The 29-year-old will become one of a select group of players to reach 100 caps for Nigeria, highlighting his long-standing importance to the national team since his debut in 2015. I am proud to be where I am today; proud to wear the green-and-white. I am grateful to everyone, including the coach who called me up to the team for the first time. I have no regrets choosing Nigeria, the former Everton midfielder told thenff.com. Iwobi made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly match against DR Congo in Vis, Belgium, on October 8, 2015.I first went to the Nigeria U23 team camp and felt at home. I had represented England at youth level but always felt Nigeria was home. My father always told me to go out there and enjoy my football and make the decision that I felt was right for me. He was part of the decision but didnt force it on me, he said.I wont say I am a legend; I just see myself as a Super Eagles player. It feels great to be reaching 100 caps, and I even wish I could add another 100. I have really enjoyed my time with the Super Eagles.Iwobi highlighted his goal against Zambia in October 2017 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, which sealed Nigerias qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as his most memorable moment. I loved the occasion because my dad and mum were both in the stadium to see it. We celebrated together afterwards. It was an exciting moment, he said. He added that while he would have loved to win the Africa Cup of Nations or feature in another World Cup, he has no regrets about his journey with the national team. Iwobis father, Chuka Iwobi, expressed pride in his sons achievement and his commitment to the national team. We remain ever grateful to the nation for the opportunity Alex has been given. When he made his debut in 2015, we did not know it would lead to this incredible milestone of 100 caps, he said. Alex loves playing for Nigeria and always gives his best. No one can question his commitment or patriotism. He has grown stronger through the highs and lows, and we pray he continues to excel. The post Im Proud Alex Iwobi excited ahead of 100th Super Eagles cap appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
