The Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Prince Lanre Sanusi, has denied any involvement in the recent demolition of buildings on 6th Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.

Sanusi said the demolition was carried out by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), which had earlier served notices to the affected property owners. He stated that the FHA presented documents showing it had warned occupants to vacate the area over a year ago due to lack of proper permits and approvals.

Speaking during an inspection of an ongoing road project on 23rd Road, Sanusi appealed to the FHA to notify the local government ahead of future demolitions to enable dialogue with affected persons.

“The building that was demolished on 6th Avenue had nothing to do with the local government. The FHA carried it out and we have documents showing they served notices last year.”

Sanusi, who promised that the 23rd Road project would be completed within four weeks, said the council had also flagged off work at Jakande Estate, Mile 2, and planned to relocate traders at Agboju Market to a safer location. He warned traders operating under high-tension wires and on sidewalks to vacate those areas, saying the government was working to restore order and Festac’s lost glory.
