Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has won the presidential primary election of the
African Democratic Congress (ADC) giving him the go ahead to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.
In the final results which were announced on Wednesday night after days of collation, Atiku got 1,855,787 votes in 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), beating the other contenders: former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and businessman, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Amaechi won in three states: Rivers and two Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom, while Hayatu-Deen clinched only Kwara State.
Both men had last night boycotted the final tally of results in the primaries, and rejected the results as they were being released from the states.
They alleged irregularities, rigging and concocted results.
The outcome of the exercise was confirmed by the party which shared the results on its verified X handle.

The post read: “Atiku defeats Amaechi, Hayatudeen to secure ADC presidential ticket.
“Final result: Atiku 1,855,787, Amaechi 509,397, Hayatudeen 180,903. Total votes cast in the election: 2,546,457. Total party membership for the election: 3,113,599. Congratulations to Waziri Atiku.”
At the collation centre were: ADC National Chairman David Mark, members of the party’s National Executive Committee and National Working Committee (NWC), and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by National Commissioner Sam Olumekun.
Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, Ikechi Emenike, said some of the results were transmitted virtually while hard copies were still being conveyed to Abuja by state officials.
He also explained that the party restricted its voting figures to membership records earlier submitted to INEC in line with electoral guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Atiku extended the olive branch to Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen, asking them to join hands with him to win the election for the ADC.
He castigated the APC-led Federal Government, saying the party had failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
“At this juncture, this is not the time to celebrate. No one was defeated. We are one party and we all need to recognise the fierce urgency of the moment”.
In a direct appeal to the two contenders, he said, “I invite Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to join me in this fight to save our democracy and our country”.
