The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists to avoid speeding, overloading, and other dangerous driving habits as Muslims across the country prepare for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The warning was given by the Zonal Commanding Officer of FRSC Zone RS10 Sokoto, Shoba B. Akande, during a meeting with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Sokoto.Akande said the Corps had put measures in place to ensure safer travel during the festive period.

He stressed that road users must also play their part by obeying traffic rules.“The Corps appeals to motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, route violations, and driving under fatigue,” he said.

He added that passengers also have a role to play by speaking up when drivers engage in unsafe practices that could put lives at risk.To support the operation, Akande disclosed that more than 1,500 personnel, including officers and marshals, have been deployed across major highways and black spots in Sokoto zone.

According to him, the personnel will be backed by patrol vehicles, ambulances, and other logistics to ensure quick response to emergencies and smooth traffic flow.

The FRSC also said it is strengthening enforcement against key offences responsible for road crashes, including reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Akande noted that the Corps remains committed to protecting lives through strict enforcement and public awareness, especially during peak travel periods like Eid.He assured that emergency lines of 122 and 112 remain active round the clock for road users in need of assistance.
