Armed bandits on Saturday launched an attack on a Customs checkpoint along the Luma–Babana Road in Niger State, resulting in the death of one officer.

Zagazola Makama reports that the violence erupted after Customs personnel intercepted suspected informants and food suppliers linked to bandit groups, who were transporting jerry cans of fuel on motorcycles through Luma Audu Fari-Kuka village.

In retaliation, the bandits stormed the location and opened fire, killing Suleiman, a Customs camp assistant from New Bussa.

His body was later taken to the General Hospital in New Bussa for autopsy.

Authorities have begun efforts to track down the attackers, though the surrounding areas are currently reported to be calm and under control.
