
Coordinated attacks by gunmen on Kaiwa, Gelawu and Gebbe villages in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State have led to the killing of eight persons.
The killings have caused panic and mass displacement of residents to places they consider to be conducive for their safety.
The attackers, according to a source, surprisingly stormed the Kebbi community, firing sporadically and causing fear and confusion among residents of the area.
He described the assault as the worst in the area in many years, stressing that it forced residents to abandon their homes in search of safety.
He added that the community is traumatised, saying that they have not experienced such level of violence in a long time.
The spokesman for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, while confirming the incident said, “Seven victims died during the attacks, while one additional victim later died while receiving treatment.”
Usman expressed delight that another injured victim is currently responding to medical care.
The spokesman stated that security agencies have sustained coordinated operations within the affected areas, adding that they have intensified patrols and surveillance in order to forestall further breaches.
