Troops have repelled a bandit attack in Sokoto State and recovered 25 rustled cattle after a gun battle with the attackers in Tureta Local Government Area.

The information was contained in a post shared on X on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, the attack happened on June 2 at about 2:00 p.m. when armed bandits invaded Imasa Matankari village, shooting sporadically and rustling livestock.

The village is said to be located along the border area with Zamfara State, an area often affected by bandit activities.

Troops of the 8 Division Operation FANSAN YANMA were quickly mobilised to the scene and blocked possible escape routes used by the attackers.

A gun duel reportedly followed, forcing the bandits to flee into the Kuruwa Forest.

During the confrontation, the attackers abandoned the rustled cattle, allowing the troops to recover all 25 cows alive and unhurt.

“No casualties were recorded among security personnel or residents during the operation,” Makama wrote.

Security sources said the recovered animals will be returned to their owners after proper identification by community leaders.
