The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious thug and armed robbery suspect, Yakubu Mohammed Auwal, popularly known as “World Boy”, in connection with a series of violent robberies in the Bauchi metropolis.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesman of the command, OSP Nafiu Habib, operatives of the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters arrested the 22-year-old suspect on March 8, 2026, at about 11:50 am after responding to a distress call.
The suspect was said to have stabbed a resident, one Shamsuddeen of Anguwan Sarakuna, in the lap before robbing him of a Techno POP 5 phone valued at N20,000.
Police investigations further linked Auwal with another suspect, Bala Mohammed, also known as “Balagus”. The duo allegedly attacked a woman, Ijeoma Neonye, in Magaji Quarters on March 7 at about 1 pm, where they reportedly stabbed her and made away with an Infinix Smart 7 Plus phone valued at N120,000, N280,000 in cash, a Rolex chain wristwatch worth N35,000, and other valuables.
The statement added that the same suspect had earlier been involved in another robbery on February 22, 2026, when he and an accomplice, identified as Amir, who is currently at large, allegedly attacked Usama Abdullahi, stabbing him on the left shoulder before stealing a Techno POP 5 phone valued at N70,000.
Police confirmed that Bala Mohammed has also been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
The command noted that Auwal had previously been notorious for involvement in Sara-Suka thuggery across the Magaji Quarters, Anguwan Sarakuna and Rafin Makaranta areas of Bauchi.
He was earlier arrested, prosecuted and convicted in 2024 without the option of a fine but later resurfaced in the community.
Items recovered from the suspects include two sharp knives, a pair of scissors, and a Techno POP 5 phone belonging to one of the victims.
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman, Magdalene Pius of Gwallameji, reported to the ‘E’ Division Yelwa Police Station that a suspect, Usama Salihu, threatened her with a knife on March 7 at about 6:30 am and robbed her of an Infinix Smart 9 phone valued at N125,000 and an Itel keypad phone worth N15,000.
Operatives of the command subsequently arrested the 21-year-old suspect and recovered the Infinix Smart 9 as an exhibit.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen security across the state to ensure the safety of lives and property.
