The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the bomb explosion that occurred in Borno State on Christmas Eve, accusing the Federal Government of failing in its responsibility to protect lives and property.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, expressed sympathy with the families of victims affected by the attack, which occurred at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri.
Ememobong described the incident as another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country, particularly in the North-East.
“The news of an explosion in a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, is a sad reminder of the rising insecurity that Nigerians are forced to live with daily,” he said.
He faulted the Federal Government’s handling of security, insisting that safeguarding lives and property remains the primary responsibility of any government.
“This is totally unacceptable. The irreducible minimum any government owes its people is protection.
This administration has failed woefully and must act decisively instead of resorting to rhetoric,” Ememobong added.
The PDP warned that continued attacks on places of worship poses a serious threat to religious freedom, peace, and national unity in a multi-religious society like Nigeria.
“We commiserate with the families who lost their loved ones in this senseless attack. No Nigerian should lose their life while worshiping God,” the party said.
The opposition party urged both the federal and Borno State governments to urgently strengthen security measures, especially during festive periods when public gatherings increase.
