BREAKING: APC Primary: Police arrest armed thugs connected to serving lawmaker in Ekiti

The Police have arrested armed thugs allegedly sponsored by a serving House of Representatives member in Ekiti State.

The State Police Commissioner, Falade Adegoroye Michael, announced the arrest on Friday during a press conference.

The suspects, who were referred to by the police as “armed hoodlums with dangerous weapons” were arrested at 9pm on Thursday at Onikoyi Hotel, Ikun-Ekiti, after intelligence was received concerning their arrival in the state. 

The arrested suspects were identified as Adekunle Stephen, Boluwaji Ishola, Adepoju Adebayo, Oluwatobi Adeoluwa, Akintunde Emmanuel, Ibitola Babatope, and Adewale Makanjuola, while others escaped in three vehicles. 

According to the police commissioner, the suspects confessed to being political thugs hired by a serving member of the House of Representatives to destabilise the APC primary elections earlier scheduled for 15th May, 2026 in the state. 

The Police revealed that “One Beretta Pistol, Two Pump Action guns, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition, substances suspected to be criminal charm, four live cartridges, two Apple Laptops and a Honda Accord car were recovered from them”, he said.

Falade, who further assured that the hoodlums will be charged in court, said “effort is underway to arrest other fleeing gang members and their sponsor”, CP Falade stated.

DAILY POST reports that the primary election, which was earlier scheduled to hold Friday May 15, was later postponed to Saturday May 16, 2026.
