Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in a four-set thriller 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 to win his second US Open title and the world's number one position.
The Spaniard came into the final, defeating Novak Djokovic in the semi-final. He was also on a perfect run, having not dropped a single set en route to the final. This was the second time Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz met each other in a grand slam final in the space of three months after they met each other at the Wimbledon final.
What did Carlos Alcaraz say about his US Open victory?
"I want to start with Jannik, it's unbelievable what you're doing the whole season, great level during every tournament that you're playing. I am seeing you more than my family. It's great to share a court, to share the locker room, to share everything with you. I am just really proud of the people I have around. Every achievement I'm having is because of you, thanks to you … this one is yours."
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner became the first pair of men to win all four Grand Slams for two straight years since 2007 since Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal: 2006-2007. The Spaniard joins Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Mats Wilander as the only men all-time to win multiple major titles on each surface
