Chaos erupted during a Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL match between Katsina United and Barau FC on Saturday in Katsina.

The violence occurred after Katsina United fans allegedly slit Barau FC player Nana Abraham’s throat.

The incident came shortly after Barau player Orji Kalu scored a 69th-minute equaliser to make the game 1-1.

Some home supporters were reportedly unhappy with the equaliser, and the atmosphere quickly turned hostile, resulting in Abraham being attacked at the stadium.

Abraham sustained a deep cut on his neck from the assault by enraged Katsina United fans.

The match referee immediately stopped play while medical staff attended to Abraham.

After a brief delay, the match resumed, with Abraham substituted in the 71st minute.

The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.

Confirming the incident, Barau FC, via its official X handle, wrote: “70’ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United 1-1 Barau FC.”
