Members of the Jetties and Petroleum Tank Farms Owners of Nigeria have asked the Nigerian government to cancel the petrol import licenses recently granted to marketers.

The Executive Secretary of the group, Mr Olayiwola Temitope, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday.

The group dissociated itself from the proposed suit to be filed by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, DAPPMAN, challenging Dangote Refinery’s suit against the recent petrol import licenses granted to marketers by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

According to JETFON, the licenses are Nigeria’s economy and anti-industrial growth.

They argued that continuously granting import permits undercuts domestic production and devalues massive local investments like the Dangote Refinery.

The Association further asserted that absolute reliance on local refining capacity is the ultimate path to true economic independence and energy security.

“Relying on foreign refined products leaves the local economy vulnerable to external supply chain shocks, international logistics disruptions, and continuous foreign exchange pressures that weaken the naira.”

“By prioritising local refineries, Nigeria can build a self-sustaining and secure domestic fuel supply ecosystem,” the statement read in part.

Recall that Dangote Refinery had dragged the Nigerian government to court for granting fresh petrol import licenses contrary to its own ‘Nigeria first policy.’

DAPPMAN, unconcerned about the dangers of importation to the Nigerian economy, had kicked against the Dangote Refinery.
