Afrobeats superstar Davido, born David Adeleke, paid tribute to his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, by inaugurating a female hostel named in her honor at Clifford University in Abia State.
The ceremony, held during the university’s 6th convocation, drew excitement from students, faculty, and fans alike.
Joined by members of his 30BG crew and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, Davido officially cut the ribbon for the Veronica Adeleke Hostel. The singer described the dedication as a celebration of his mother’s legacy as a teacher, philanthropist, and advocate for education, emphasizing that her values continue to inspire his life, music, and humanitarian work.
“When I looked into the faces of the graduates, I saw the same fire that built me, that hunger to be seen, to turn pain into power,” Davido told the audience during his commencement speech. “Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”
The event also saw Cubana Chief Priest pledge to cover the school fees of 50 students, further adding to the spirit of giving and empowerment that marked the day. Clifford University’s Vice Chancellor, Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his contribution to education and for inspiring young Africans to pursue excellence.
Davido shared on his social media handle X that the hostel represents a continuation of his mother’s work: “My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose, turning love into legacy.”
The inauguration concluded with the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by university management, students, and invited guests, cementing a lasting tribute to a woman whose influence continues to shape lives.
