The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of the 8 Division Sokoto and the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to sustain their operations and decisively eliminate bandits and terrorists in the region.
The statement was contained in a post on Facebook on Saturday, signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director Army Public Relations.
According to the statement, the army chief gave the charge on Friday while addressing troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion in Illela, Sokoto State during an operational visit.
Lieutenant General Shaibu commended the troops for their courage, professionalism, and resilience in confronting criminal elements.
“I applaud your bravery, professionalism, and the successes you have achieved so far. Your efforts have helped improve security in your area. You must keep up the momentum to completely defeat the terrorists, whose actions against Nigerians can no longer be tolerated,” the COAS said.
The COAS also promised to take care of the troops, instructing the construction of extra housing, medical, and other needed facilities at Illela Barracks to lift morale and help the soldiers and their families.
