Edo attack: Peter Obi should have informed us before coming – Commissioner

Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, says former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, should have informed the state government before entering the state.

The Commissioner said this on Wednesday while fielding questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.

He was reacting to the gunmen attack on Peter Obi and other notable chieftains of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

DAILY POST recalls that there was an ‘assassination attempt’ on the former Anambra state governor and other members of the ADC in Edo state, a development which has sparked reactions in Nigeria.

Afegbua also said that Governor Monday Okpebholo was misinterpreted when he made a speech last year asking Peter Obi to seek clearance from him before entering the state.

“People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebolo meant when he made the statement in July last year, to the extent that anytime Peter Obi wants to come to Edo, he should please inform the state government.

“But because Obi is a politically exposed person, we would expect that he would extend the courtesy of informing the government of the day.

“What happened in Edo should be located within the ambit of the ADC—one factional group of the ADC versus another faction of the ADC,” the Commissioner said.
