‘Edo is nobody’s family estate,’ Aisha Yesufu rebukes Okpebholo over remarks on Obi

The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has berated the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for warning the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to steer clear of the state.

.Okpebholo had on Friday warned the former Anambra State governor not to come to the state without clearance from security agents.

“There’s a new sheriff in town. He cannot just come into Edo without informing me. His security will not be guaranteed. If anything happens to him here, he will have himself to blame. I’m not joking,” Okpebholo had said in a broadcast.

“He came the other day and gave out N15 million. A man who claims to have no money. Where did he get that from?

“After he left, there was unrest in Benin, and three people lost their lives. That’s why I’m saying this: tell Obi not to step into Edo without informing me first.”

Yesufu, who featured on Channels Television’s Breakfast Show programme on Monday, said Okpebholo lacks the power to stop any Nigerian from visiting Edo State.

“He said it very clearly, and he said it very loud. He said your security will not be guaranteed if you do anything that happens to you; you know it’s on you, so that’s a threat to his life.

“Beyond that, also is the fact that the Edo State government also came out with a statement where they said that he wasn’t threatening him, but he needs to tell them when he’s coming and also get security clearance.

“I don’t know what gave the governor the audacity that he can give security clearance for any Nigerian to be able to come to Edo State. Edo State is not his family estate.

“He currently might be the one who is governing the state, but he doesn’t have the right to give anybody clearance for them to be anywhere,” the activist stated.
