What was intended to be a joyous celebration of a new home and a festive Christmas reunion turned into a horrific crime scene in the Oben Community of Edo State. The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 43-year-old Amadin Williams for the alleged murder of his lifelong friend, Eghosa Osas.
Osas, also 43, had recently returned to Nigeria from overseas to spend the holiday season with his family. However, the homecoming ended in tragedy during a housewarming event when he was brutally attacked.
A source familiar with the incident shared the grim details: “I can confirm that Eghosa Osas, 43 years old, was killed by his childhood friend, Amadin Williams, for reasons yet to be ascertained. The late Eghosa had returned from abroad to celebrate Christmas with his family. He was attacked and killed at Oben Community during a housewarming party.”
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, the incident was reported by the victim’s elder brother. The details provided suggest a calculated attack; Osas had reportedly stepped away from the festivities to relieve himself when Williams allegedly cornered him.
The suspect is accused of using a machete to inflict a fatal wound on the victim’s neck. Confirming the suspect’s status, Ikoedem stated:
“The report of the murder of Eghosa is true, and the suspect, Amadin Williams, believed to be his childhood friend, is in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”

This shocking murder comes on the heels of a massive crackdown by the Edo State Police Command. Last week, authorities revealed a significant spike in law enforcement activity, noting that no fewer than 821 suspects were arrested for various offenses throughout 2025.
State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, detailed that these arrests were part of a concentrated effort to curb violent crime. The 2025 figures include:
– 117 suspects arrested for murder.
– 171 for kidnapping.
– 239 linked to cultism.
– 39 for armed robbery.
– 62 for rape and sexual offenses.
As the community of Oben mourns the loss of a son who had only just returned home, the police have assured the public that justice will be served once the investigation into the specific motives behind Williams’ actions is complete.
